Memoirs: What my dog means to me
My dog Max. The very first time I laid eyes on him as a young puppy, joy jumped into my heart because I found a real pal that licked my face with a wild wagging tail that came with a bunch of fir. Max grew to be what one would consider to be a large dog. At maturity Max weighed 86 pounds and about 15% of that weight was fir, black fir. He was 1/2 Newfoundland and 1/2 Burmese. One of the most outstanding physical aspects as regards to appearance was Max’s large light brown eyes. Light brown. Piercing, yet could be loving or very threading depending where Max was at the time. When he was in my truck, you Read the rest of this entry »
No CommentsShort stories: Dreams
The noise outside seemed like constant thunder. The lights blinked on and off as the glasses shook together violently, threatening to crack. The ground seemed to be shaking and it was nearly impossible to walk, unless you rocked back and forth on your heels to keep balance. “There must be some kind of storm,” Juliet called out as loud as she could, but her brother, who had been playing games earlier had not heard her as he was curled in a corner, his arms over his head.
She made her way slowly to the balcony that looked over the small swash and into the woods, which may have been the only patch of trees on the beach that weren’t palm trees. Read the rest of this entry »

The Planner
Max stood still. His ears were still ringing, his throbbing pulse and heavy breathing the only things he could hear. The gun smoke mixed with the pungent odor of mary jane in the room.
It’s over, Max thought to himself. It worked.
He looked down at his hand still clenching the gun, his knuckles white with adrenaline and fear. He forced his fingers to relax and the gun slowly released from his grip. It fell with a deadening plunk onto the hardwood floors. His hand was cramped, still feeling the cool grip in his palm.
It’s over. It worked.
Max looked around the room once the smoke had finally cleared. He saw John’s body slumped against the kitchen table. The hole in Read the rest of this entry »

Testimonies: Outdoor wedding horror stories – Part 13
Horror is not something new to a city like Berlin, the capital city of the proud nation that is Germany. During the Twentieth Century it had seen the birth of the Third Reich, the planning of the systematic extermination of European Jewry, the near destruction from the allied bombing and the Potsdam Conference where Churchill, Truman and Stalin met to decide the future of Post-war Germany. During the Soviet era, the city was neglected and many buildings pulled down. However, even after all this, nothing would compare with the horror upon the faces of assembled guests and that of the bride and groom during a certain wedding I managed to sneak into a couple of years ago.
I was living Read the rest of this entry »
No CommentsTestimonies: Taking your dog to obedience class
Obedience class for Max and I was not even an option. It was a necessity! I met our black lab, Max, in front of a Wal-Mart with his siblings and an owner who didn’t want the hefty price I would have to pay at a pet store for a “purebred” without registration papers! Yes, there were many clues, but my husband and I fell in love with our lab, especially since our hearts were still mourning over the death of our 14 year old cocker spaniel, Hobbes.
We had no idea what we were doing and how our lives would change, but since we have no children, I went into the whole “Puppy Mamma” phase whole heartedly. Read the rest of this entry »

The Time Hoop.
HELP! Somebody please help! I’m stuck here! All these weird guys are following me! I’ve gotta hide! Okay, they can’t see me, I’ve secured myself under the bleachers. I’m safe, for now. Oh man, how did I get myself in this mess? Well, I’ve got no way out of here until those creeps are gone, so I guess I should just tell you.
It all started last week, it was the last minute of our basketball game against Avalon. My school was in the lead, 48-46. The plan was simple, Robert would run the ball down to Jake, who would fake it, pass it to Max, who would pass it to me, Ray Read the rest of this entry »

Melissa shivered as the brisk air outside cut through her clothes, smothering her skin. The moons faint glow remained a whisper in the darkness. A black sedan sat just outside the house, a dark tomb.
Her tomb.
Gabe moved ahead of Brian and Melissa, opening the back vehicles back door. Brian stepped forward to throw Melissa into the backseat.
“Hold it!”
Surprised, all three of them turned. Another man stood in the darkness, a car behind him. In one hand he held a flashlight that blinded them all, in the other he held a raised gun.
“Back away from the car, and let the girl go.”
Immediately, Brian released his grasp on Melissa’s arm and she ran to the Read the rest of this entry »
Testimonies: Outdoor wedding horror stories – Part 4
“When it rains, it pours.” This is a saying I have always heard, but never had I seen it truly illustrated until one of my friends decided to get married. No, there was no precipitation on her wedding day, but that is about the only positive thing that I can say about the ceremony and the hours leading up to it.
Allow me to start at the beginning. We were friends graduating from high school. Well, more like acquaintances than friends. After all, we got along fine and hung out together with mutual friends, but to be honest we really weren’t close at all. Imagine my surprise when she asked me and my best friend Read the rest of this entry »
