Options for financing your wedding – Part 8

Financing a wedding when you’re on a tight budget can be a big challenge. These days most couples are paying for their weddings themselves instead of the bride’s family paying for it. Try one or all of the following ideas. Remember, every little bit helps.

1. First of all, ask your parents for help. Most will be happy to. If they are unable to help you with money, maybe they could help with something else. Read on for ideas.

2. Another option is to ask your friends and family to sponsor something in your wedding. This is a very popular tradition among the Hispanic culture. Even sponsoring something as small as the guest book pen makes a difference. Plus, a sponsor may have something to contribute other than money. Perhaps they own a margarita machine or they work for a company that allows employee’s use of their facilities and/or services for free or at a discounted rate. Helping out with do-it-yourself projects is another way they could sponsor your wedding. Make sure you recognize and thank all of your sponsors at the reception.

3. Credit cards can be a great way to fill in the gaps. I would like to reiterate the words “fill in the gaps”. Please do not fund your entire wedding with credit cards. You don’t want to start out your new life in the hole. It can put an unnecessary strain on your marriage. Especially at time in your life that is suppose to be filled with excitement and romance. Also remember that you will have to pay back all the money you spent plus interest if you do not have a 0% interest rate.

4. You might try asking your bank for a personal loan. If you have a good relationship with your bank and you have good credit, you might get a decent interest rate. Try to save this as a last resort if possible.

5. Are you turning 2 households into one? Well then, sell off your extra stuff on Craig’s List or EBay. Craig’s List is free and EBay only charges a small fee. It will also free up some space in your garage or attic.

6. Cut back on dining out and going to the movies. You could try going to the dollar movies or renting a movie and staying in. Look for free events and cut corners where you can. Take the money you would have spent and put it in a designated account or a piggy bank to be used only for your wedding.

7. Put all of your loose change and possibly some dollar bills into a jar and do not touch it! My sister saved over $500.00 this way and used it for fun money on her honeymoon.

8. Try making money on the side.
