Do you need a wedding planner

Wedding planners are not necessary for every wedding; however, using a planner will lower your stress level tremendously, and improve the quality of your event, if your wedding falls into one of the following categories:

-Weddings with over 50 guests

-Weddings costing over $15,000

-Weddings with limited budgets

-Destination weddings

-Weddings with many guests from out of town.

A wedding is probably the most formal, expensive, and emotionally draining event that you will plan. If you are not an event planner by trade, it may be the only event you plan. People who are not hair stylists do not cut their own hair; non-mechanics do not change transmissions, and those who have no electrical training do not re-wire houses. (At least, they shouldn’t.) A professional wedding planner is equivalent to other professionals, and they are trained to make your event the best it can be. Planners are organized, have many contacts, and know hard-earned “tips and tricks” from planning events. If catastrophe occurs, they can fix the problem. Good planners will not make your wedding their wedding- they will learn your tastes and preferences and incorporate those into your special day. Planners help you maximize time and resources for all facets of your event.

When people think of wedding planners, they often remember the movie “Father of the Bride.” Martin Short played a wedding planner on the edge of sanity, and the edge of reason. Professional wedding planners do not resemble Sort’s character in anything but creativity. There is nothing to fear when using a professional planner.

On your wedding day, and the weeks leading up to it, you will want to spend time with visiting friends and family -not finishing favors or following up with vendors. A wedding is one of the few times when you will have all of your loved ones around you at once. Maximize your time and the time of your immediate family with visitors and guests by letting someone else handle the details. Using a planner also allows you and your partner to plan aspects of life after marriage, thus giving you time to build a strong foundation for your marriage. Using a planner will help you avoid “post event letdown” that many brides experience when they are the sole organizer of their event.

Planners will cost between $30-$100/hour and most planners will help as much or as little as you specify. For an event that costs so much money, time and emotional energy, investing in a wedding planner is the best investment you can make.
