Getting the best from your wedding vendors
How to choose a wedding florist:
What are the top questions you should ask a Wedding Florist?
Before your consultation
When should I set up my initial consultation?
If you are planning a wedding for a Saturday during the busy summer season, June-September, it is best to schedule your initial consultation up to a year in advance. For less popular months or days of the weeks, 6 months should be enough time. If you have a preferred florist or planning a large floral wedding, you may need to book a year in advance.
How to find a floral designer.
Ask your friends and family for recommendations. Read local magazines that focus on weddings. Search online. Ask the ceremony/reception sites if they have a preferred vendor list.
Before you schedule your consultation, know your budget!
You may be unsatisfied with the outcome of your consultation if you are unable to give the florist direction on your wedding flower budget. The wedding florist needs to know the budget to guide you through the process. The easiest way to determine the flower budget is to “budget plan” each phase of the wedding by the percent of total wedding budget. Most brides today plan on 10% to 15% of the total budget.
During the consultation
Be sure to take our checklist with you to the consultation.
When selecting a wedding florist take into consideration if you feel a comfortable connection. You’ll want a good working relationship with with your florist as well as the other vendors!
Be sure to ask how long the florist has been doing weddings.
Do they specialize in weddings or do they have a large, bustling shop where weddings aren’t a focus.
How many weddings does the florist do in one day?
Ask where the flowers will come from.
Does the florist have a working relationship with many vendors to assure you will have a wide selection?
When will the flowers be brought into the shop. We typically pick up our event flowers on a Wednesday for a Saturday wedding.
It is imperative that fresh flowers be handled correctly by your florist as well as by the professional floral wholesalers! Your florist should be able to relate confidence with the suppliers.
At the end of the consultation
Expect your florist to provide a price list of all the individual floral arrangements that you ordered. Be sure to ask your floral designer how much they will charge for set-up and delivery. And, don’t forget about added sales-tax. What are their terms for being hired? I highly recommend selecting a florist that utilizes a contract. Also, ask how they book dates, do you need to pay a deposit and how much is it? When is your final balance due?
Once you have booked, make sure your floral plan and contract list describes the designs in detail, flowers used, colors, event dates, location, event times, and the total cost for all services offered.
Weddings take a lot of intricate planning, hiring an experienced floral designer will help keep your day stress free!
